Tracking Sexual Assault Investigations
In this era of enforcement, the government has conducted 396 investigations of colleges for possibly mishandling reports of sexual violence.
So far, 62 cases have been resolved and 334 remain open.

Recent Developments

2:24 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at Temple University, its fourth investigation in this era of enforcement.

5:33 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened three new cases, two at the University of Central Florida, its first cases in this era of enforcement; and one at Hunter College of the City University of New York, its second case. The other investigation at Hunter was resolved in 2016.

4:53 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at the New York University School of Medicine, the second investigation at that school in this era of enforcement. It is the third investigation associated with NYU over all.

4 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened two new cases, one at Southern University at Baton Rouge, its first investigation in this era of enforcement, and one at the College of Idaho, its second.

5 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at Saint Gregory's University, its first investigation in this era of enforcement.

4:27 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at the University of Maryland at College Park, its second investigation in this era of enforcement.

4:25 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened four investigations and resolved one other. The office opened one case at American University, its third active investigation; one at Kansas State University, its fifth; one at the University of Illinois at Chicago, its second; and one at Virginia Commonwealth University, its third. A previous investigation at VCU was resolved in 2011.

The resolved investigation covered a case at Stanford University, which was resolved by administrative closure, which means there is no letter of findings or resolution agreement.

6:34 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had resolved a pair of investigations at Wittenberg University, after finding that the university's policies and procedures violated Title IX.

5:04 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at Washington State University, its fourth investigation in this era of enforcement.

4:41 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened three new cases, one at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, its third in this era of enforcement; one at Southwestern University of Texas, its second; and one at Manor College, its first.

4:23 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at Wofford College, its first investigation in this era of enforcement.

4:52 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened one new case, at Dartmouth College, its third investigation in this era of enforcement.

5:35 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened two new cases, one at Eastern Kentucky University, its first investigation in this era of enforcement, and one at the University of Cincinnati, its second. The office also said it had resolved an investigation of the University of Alaska system.

5 p.m.

The Office for Civil Rights said it had opened two new cases, one at Marshall University, its first investigation in this era of enforcement, and one at Methodist University, also its first.
